Generalist/Specialist

Is it time to reinvent? What are the interests of individual students and how can we facilitate an academic experience that will empower them to lead the field, or simply participate? With the countless number of institutions offering a diploma in graphic design, students can find a program that supports a focused academic experience or one that offers experimentation and/or diversity. With that in mind, this panel aims to explore a range of curricula and learning outcomes.

The philosophy of most design curricula includes "professional" preparation. In preparing students for life and work, what limitations exist in programs? Can other departments within the institution play a significant role in shaping curricula? Where are graduates working? If you are a student, what is your curriculum teaching you?
